The Role of a Nanny


A Nanny is professional, qualified and experienced Childcarer with the experience and skills to provide a safe, loving and stimulating environment for your child/children.

Live-out (Daily) Nannies usually work 10 hours a day Mon - Fri. Care of the child/children is normally on a sole-charge basis.

Live-in Nannies normally work 11-12 hours a day Mon - Fri with 1-2 days babysitting included. They will normally have sole-charge of the child/children; however some shared care may also be required when the parents are at home.

The role of a Nanny:

Nannies are expected to undertake all nursery duties relating to the children only. This means providing care such as preparing healthy meals, washing, clothing, educating and stimulating children. Your nanny will ensure that toys are organised and tidied away at the end of the day, and the play area kept clean and tidy. A nanny will also ensure the child/children are active and go to social activities that enhance their learning and development.

Other duties may also include;

  • Taking and collecting the child/children from nursery/school
  • Ensuring that the child/children's toys and equipment are well maintained and clean
  • Homework supervision and assistance
  • Organising trips and days out to promote the social and educational development of the child/children
  • Arranging play dates, social activities and after school groups
  • Keeping parents fully informed of their child/children’s day, progress and any other important information
